Mint-Lime Pear-Raspberry Green Cream

I couldn’t let the day end without sharing this gem of a smoothie recipe.

I lay in bed last night mentally reviewing the contents of my fridge. O me, o my – what could I bring together to create my next healthy glog?

My dear reader – this one is a stunner! So, so creamy. Wow.

This is what ended up in my blender, a little number I have decided to dub:

Mint-Lime Pear-Raspberry Green Cream

1 1/4 cups water

juice of 1/2 lime

1-inch knob of peeled fresh ginger

1 tbsp. flax seed

1 tsp chlorella/spirulina powder mix (see photo below)

1/2 bunch of fresh organic parsley

handful of fresh organic mint leaves

1 bunch of rainbow chard leaves (I kept the stems for a dinner stir-fry)

1 Anjou pear

1/2 cup frozen raspberries

3/4 cup mango chunks

stevia drops, to taste

@#%&*# I mean, goodness gracious me! What was most striking about this particular smoothie was, well, its smooth-y-ness. The pear gives it a thick creaminess, and the frozen fruit adds further structure. And the taste. Awesome! The marriage of mint and lime with this combination of fruit brought it all to the edge.

It was over before I knew it. Blender container emptied and lying spent across the kitchen counter.

And I haven’t even begun to tell you that:

  1. Lime juice and leafy chard will help balance pH levels, shifting the body to a more alkaline state;
  2. Parsley is your detoxifying friend, stimulating kidneys to flush out toxins;
  3. Mint eases digestion by helping to relax the muscles of the intestinal wall;
  4. Ginger soothes digestion and reduces inflammation;
  5. Pear provides a significant source of dietary fiber, and shines with antioxidants, especially vitamins C and E.

And the rest? That little spoonful of chlorella and spirulina is actually the wonder god in this smoothie – a super food mix of green algae (chlorella) and blue-green algae (spirulina). These high-protein sea vegetables provide oxygenating and alkalizing properties that help increase cellular regeneration. This is the stuff that gives you a radiant, healthy glow. This is the stuff that will keep you young.

Oh and I don’t have to tell you about the omega-3 fatty acids and fiber provided by the flax seed, or the multitude of antioxidants and more fiber brought on by the raspberries and mango, do I?

Just make this, drink it, love it (and maybe stave off a wrinkle or two)!
