If you’re looking for a last-minute holiday treat to whip up, I’ve got your number!
Julie Daniluk, the energizer bunny of the holistic nutrition world, posted this recipe on Facebook the other day. I had a feeling it would be great, and decided to give it a go.
It’s greater than great.
I stuffed a mason jar full of these gems and delivered them to my hair stylist/friend yesterday. She shrieked in delight after popping the first ball into her mouth…and immediately chased ball number one with ball number two. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Especially when it comes to chocolate.
A couple of dear friends stopped in last night and I served up the rest of the balls.
Same reaction.
The clincher is that these babies are made with a small army of good-for-you ingredients, including energy-boosting maca powder. Maca brings plenty of B-vitamins into the mix -helping you cope with holiday stress- and gives your libido a nudge. Ooh la la!
Here is the recipe – be sure not to make substitutes. You will be so surprised at how supremely delicious these nourishing balls are!
Julie Daniluk’s Holiday Chocoloate Maca Truffles
Ingredients
1 tbsp maca powder
2/3 cup raw cacao powder (not cocoa powder…let’s go for the full-on real chocolate superfood deal)
2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp Himalayan sea salt
1 cup raw nut butter (I used raw almond butter – not roasted…let’s keep the live enzymes dancing)
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 raw honey (look for ‘unpasteurized’…healing properties are intact when the honey hasn’t been ‘cooked’)
24 dried cranberries (not Craisins – these have added sugar and oil; just get the plain old dried cranberries)
1/2 cup hemp hearts
Directions
Mix dry ingredients with a whisk. Add wet ingredients (nut butter through raw honey) – stir with a sturdy wooden spoon until well-mixed. Pinch an inch or so (depending on how big you want your truffles to be) around a dried cranberry. Roll in hemp hearts.
Eat.
Do an elf jig. Belt out your favourite holiday tune.
Eat another one.
Merry Christmas, friends!
