All right, folks.
Brace yourselves.
This one kicks the can!
Here’s a smoothie that not only delivers on nutrition, but is gloriously, sublimely delicious! And, to top it all off, it delivers magnificently on the holiday season front – with highly festive notes of red goodness (combined with green-greeny-greens…which tempers the bright red glow a bit…)
Let’s call it…The Merlot (Smoothie)
Ingredients
1 cup water (or non-dairy beverage)
1 heaping tablespoon spirulina
1/2 teaspoon chlorella
1 heaping tablespoon maca powder
1 heaping teaspoon cinnamon
1 heaping teaspoon green stevia powder (or other natural sweetener)
1 knob of fresh ginger root, peeled
1 heaping tablespoon flax seed
lots of leafy greens ( I used 1 head of romaine hearts + some green leaf lettuce + large handful of fresh parsley)
1 small organic pear (I had an Anjou pear waiting to be eaten)
Handful of frozen cranberries (about 1/2 cup)
Handful of frozen strawberries (about 1/2-3/4 cup)
1/2 cup frozen beet chunks (peeled and cubed beets ahead of time; froze in freezer bags)
1/2-3/4 cup frozen pineapple chunks
Preparation
Add water, and all ingredients through leafy greens into high-powered blender. Blend a few seconds until smooth. Add pear and frozen fruit; blend until ultra smooth.
This is a mighty, mighty fine swig.
